Dear Friends,
This year the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival celebrates 15 years of admission-free performing arts in one of the City’s most beautiful public spaces!
Our 2015 anniversary season offers over 90 programs, including music, theater, circus, dance and poetry. Whether from the Bay Area or well beyond, every one of our artists is tops.
The Festival kicks off bravura style on May 3 with Latin jazz legend Eddie Palmieri and his Salsa Orchestra, and the season takes off from there.
We’ve commissioned some of the Bay Area’s most remarkable artists to create new work that will premiere in Yerba Buena Gardens. These are:
- Wendy Rein and Ryan Smith’s compelling site-specific dance Through my fingers to the deep for RAWdance
- Circus artists Abigail Munn and David Hunt’s hilarious Mighty! for Circus Bella
- Resident artist Marcus Shelby’s thought-provoking Beyond the Blues: A Prison Oratorio, highlighting the reforms needed to abolish today’s school-to-prison pipeline
Other season highlights include astounding sounds from the Dafnis Prieto Sextet, heart-pumping Afro-beat from Brazilian group Bixiga 70, site-specific theater by Theater Rhinoceros’s John Fisher, the Bay Area premiere of Yosvany Terry’s Ancestral Memories, plus so much more, including outstanding artists yet to be announced.
Come celebrate 15 years with the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival!
Summer in The City is HERE!
