Yerba Buena Gardens Festival 2020 Season Update

Dearest Friends and Community,

After much thought, we have decided to cancel the 2020 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival season originally scheduled for May – October 2020. In our twentieth anniversary year, this is a bittersweet decision but a necessary one to ensure the health and safety of our wonderful artists, communities and staff. We remain committed to presenting an excellent, engaging and diverse array of admission-free performances and cultural events in Yerba Buena Gardens as soon the situation allows.

In the meantime, our staff is working on upcoming projects with outstanding artists and community partners. YBG Festival is co-presenting John Santos’ Fall lecture series with the Museum of African Diaspora (John also recently released an album, Art of the Descarga, featuring several songs commissioned by YBG Festival). Stay tuned for more exciting news to come about future events, like the Halloween Hoopla, artist commissions with composer JooWan Kim and composer Marcus Shelby, other artist commissions to be announced, and pop-up events, such as small, socially-distanced exercise dance classes in Yerba Buena Gardens partnering with Rhythm & Motion Dance Program. Stay in touch via social media and the monthly eNewsletter for the latest updates.

The performing arts have always brought communities together in times of joy and in times of struggle. The annual Yerba Buena Gardens Festival will return to celebrate our resilience as a community under open skies.

The YBG Festival team is grateful for your support. We miss you immensely. As we shelter in place, we send well wishes and hope to dance with you soon at Yerba Buena Gardens Festival.

In gratitude,

Aaron Grizzell                                      Linda Lucero
President, Board of Directors              Executive/Artistic Director
