Dutch artist Maria Blaisse creates works that blur distinctions between costume and sculpture, encouraging a symbiotic interplay of body, material, form, and context. For Mother’s Day, a group of local choreographers, dancers and architects join Blaisse and the Netherlands-based curatorial platform Slow Research Lab for a “dance of possibilities” in Yerba Buena Gardens. Presented in partnership with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, this performance-demonstration of Blaisse’s phenomenal bamboo structures gives tangible expression to her vision of the built environment as something flexible and closer to nature. The outdoor performance is followed by a discussion with the artist and performers in the YBCA Grand Lobby, moderated by Slow Research Lab director Carolyn Strauss and artist-curator David Wilson.
