According to Tagalog folklore, Amihan is one of the universe’s earliest inhabitants, a genderless deity, depicted as a bird, who saved the world’s first two humans. In the Bay Area, Amihan (they/she) is a Filipina emcee, vocalist, self-taught musician and producer whose unique sound incorporates live instrumentation with influences of neo-soul and jazz over boom-bap drums and hyphy 808s. And like their name, which also refers to the warm harvest winds, Amihan’s mission is to deliver collective chants for their people’s land and livelihood with breathwork fusing hip-hop and R&B flows. A community builder who’s been performing at neighborhood events and rallies around the region since 2018, they also produce fundraisers in support of grassroots organizations—all while sharing the struggles of Filipinos locally and back in the homeland.
