Born into a Richmond family deeply rooted in Louisiana French-Creole culture, accordion virtuoso Andre Thierry lays down irrepressibly grooving, R&B-inspired zydeco in English and French. He soaked up Louisiana culture at community dances in Richmond and Oakland with his grandparents, who were part of the Great Migration that brought thousands of Gulf Coast African-Americans to the East Bay in the 1940s and 50s. Widely hailed as one of the finest musicians in zydeco, he’s honed a rip-roaring repertoire of original songs encompassing everything from traditional Creole waltzes to hard-driving blues. Leading a stellar band of top Bay Area players, Thierry earned the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame award for Best Zydeco Group twice (in 2008 and 2012) and a Grammy Award nomination.
