Singer, songwriter, activist and fierce defender of the LGBTIA+ community worldwide, Bia Ferreira defines her music as MMP: Música de Mulher Preta (Black Woman Music). She broke into public consciousness in 2017 with the track “Cota Não é Esmola,” bringing attention to the importance of the quota system in Black admissions to universities. After gaining more than 13 million views on YouTube, the song’s lyrics became mandatory reading for the University of Brasília entrance exam. In 2018, Bia was nominated for the Women in Music Awards, and in recent years her activism has been at the forefront of supporting free speech in Brazil, especially pertaining to racism and the LGBTQIA+ community.
