For 20 years California Brazil Camp has brought eager musicians together with some of Brazil’s greatest musicians and composers under the redwoods of Cazadero. In celebrating this milestone year, Brazil in the Gardens brings together an all-star faculty cast, including Spok, a saxophonist, arranger and orchestra leader from Recife who’s an innovator in the exciting northeastern style of frevo, São Paulo multi-instrumental master Alessandro Penezzi (7-string guitar, cavaquinho, mandolin and flute), veteran drummer Celso Alberti, and 23-year-old Pedro Martins, who won the 2015 Montreux Jazz Festival’s guitar competition. Other musicians will be joining the musical party, exploring a dazzling array of Brazilian styles.
