Nicaraguan-born Roger Danilo Páiz hails from one of the Central American nation’s most illustrious jazz families, and since moving to California he’s played with giants such as Dizzy Gillespie, Poncho Sanchez, Ray Barretto, Dave Valentin, Cal Tjader and Ruben Blades (who featured his bongos and vocals on the acclaimed 1990 album Rubén Blades y Son del Solar… Live!). A veteran salsero, Páiz is a vocalist, composer, percussionist and guitarist who has distinguished himself as the leader of Danilo y Orquesta Universal. He’s joined on vocals by Russian-born Olga Vinnik, who has immersed herself in the music of Latin America, as well as a powerhouse four-piece percussion section and three blazing horns. Designed for dancing, the music includes originals from Páiz’s three albums and standards by artists such as Celia Cruz and Marc Anthony.
