A street dance theater company founded in 2008 by choreographer Nicole Klaymoon, the Embodiment Project illuminates narratives silenced by inequities to inspire critical conversation and healing. The company presents a new hip-hop documentary dance theater production that fuses street dance, verbatim theater, choreo-poetry and original live song. This work uses specific dance forms – house dance, bgirling/bgirling, hip hop, popping, vogueing, and waacking. Themes explored include recovery from sexual trauma and how different forms of storytelling can challenge pervasive rape culture. The production is centered around powerhouse vocalists Amikaeyla Gaston and gina Breedlove, artists who have dedicated their art and lives to creating music that connects us to our shared humanity in these alarming times.
