A winsome singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has cultivated a joyously effervescent body of music, Mae Powell has been spreading joy on the Bay Area music scene since 2016. Deeply influenced by classic jazz vocalists, she’s honed her craft via weekly residencies at Amnesia and The Page. Whether singing bossa nova standards, vintage jazz gems inspired by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday or her buoyant originals, Powell delivers each song like a little package of love. For her festival debut as a leader–she made a dazzling first impression last year singing jazz with accordionist Rob Reich’s Swings Left–Powell is performing with her jazz sextet, a finely calibrated unit that features rising guitarist Garrett Barley, saxophonist Nathan Petersen, keyboardist Caleb Phair, bassist Patrick Murphy and drummer Benny Amón, a player deeply versed in the early 20th century rhythms of New Orleans.
