Offering a preview of the songs from the groundbreaking new theater production Mornings in Jenin Musical, a stellar cast of musicians and vocalists bring to life the story of the Palestinian Abulheja family. Conceived by Amal Bisharat, this female-driven narrative tells the powerful story of a Palestinian refugee and is adapted from susan abulhawa’s internationally acclaimed novel, Mornings in Jenin. At its heart, this musical is a love story. While history and politics are involved, ultimately it is a story about what it means to love someone, to love home, and how love can never actually be lost. With several powerful vocalists and a dynamic six-member fusion ensemble featuring oud, bass, guitar, violin, viola, cello, synthesizer, electronics, ney, qanun, and drums, the musical blends contemporary alt-pop styles with traditional Arabic instrumentation, creating a surreal atmospheric realism that invites audiences into a space of empathy, reflection, and cross-cultural understanding.
