A beloved Father’s Day tradition celebrating the creativity of North America’s indigenous peoples, the 20th annual Native Contemporary Arts Festival showcases a diverse program of native music, dance, spoken word, artist vendors and native crafts.
The NCAF showcases California native talents with songstress L Frank (Tongva Ahachmem) singing a beautiful opening prayer; dance and song with the traditional Winnama Ba-Kay Yachma Dance Group (California tribal), the inspired musical artistry of Audiopharmacy featuring Desirae Harp (Wappo/Navajo) and Ras K’Dee (Pomo); with a closing prayer song by Ohlone artist Kanyon Sayers-Rood.
The ever-popular All Nations Singers and Medicine Warrior Dancers perform traditional intertribal dance and song, while the energetically charged Dancing Earth dance troupe presents Treaty Making: We Stand Together, a contemporary work choreographed by Rulan Tangen. The program is MC’d by comedian extraordinaire Charlie Ballard, and curated by Janeen Antoine (Sicangu Lakota), American Indian Contemporary Arts founder and producer of the weekly Bay Native Circle airing on KPFA 94.1. The NCAF is presented in partnership with American Indian Contemporary Arts, with major support by the San Francisco Art Commission Native American Arts & Cultural Traditions Program.
