Guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and activist oghosthaze (aka Isis Brown) expands Oakland’s soul-steeped legacy with a body of work that imagines sounds and spaces of liberation for those who exist outside the confines of dominant society. Mentored by Tony! Toni! Toné!’s D’Wayne Wiggins, oghosthaze finds power and freedom in songs that push into unsettled territory, drawing inspiration from artists like Erykah Badu and Amy Winehouse, and activists like Jayne Cortez and Assata Shakur. Much of their music-making centers on the exploration of identity and existence, creating and finding selves, worlds, and realities. Aiming to disrupt, destruct, and unify through their sounds, oghosthaze use music as vehicle for sharing and connecting with others.
