This children’s program repeats at 12:15–12:45pm.
Parangal Dance Company is a Filipino folk dance group dedicated to preserving and promoting the ethnic attire, music and dance of the Philippines through research, workshops and performances. With its disparate array of dances, this program reflects the diversity of the archipelago. From Kalinga Province, the warrior dance Kalasag is a fierce spectacle. From the province of Lanao del Sur on the island of Mindanao, there’s the elegant court dance Pagapir, featuring fans and dainty steps. Further south on Mindanao in Basilan the dance Pansak Ngeddek is based on movements related to the traditional cycle of rice production. And in Tinikling, a dance from the central island of Leyte, dancers emulate the tikling bird’s grace and speed by skillfully maneuvering between large bamboo poles.
