As an art form always in motion, jazz is constantly expanding, absorbing new sounds and influences from near and far. The ensemble Sueños is one of the most interesting catalysts behind the music’s evolution, a quintet that has crafted a lithe and seductive electro-acoustic sound that seamlessly blends rhythms borrowed from hip-hop and rock, bebop-laced horns, and modal and gospel harmony. Featuring trumpeter Noah Frank, tenor saxophonist Eli Maliwan, keyboardist Greg Jacobs, bassist Curtis Aikens and drummer Brandon Farmer, Sueños has also crossed over into the world of hip hop, collaborating with major artists such as Chance the Rapper, Mick Jenkins, Mr. Carmack, and Saba, with whom several members recently performed on an NPR Tiny Desk concert viewed more than one million times on YouTube.
